You know, in November when the shops start putting their Christmas decoration up and even though you know you’ll be fed up with it round about the time December starts, you still feel a rush of anticipation and excitement for the holiday to come?
I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas.
- I love getting great gifts that means something to my family and friends, but I’m not a fan of the rat race it can turn into for some.
- I love making decorations from pine, spices, up-cycled egg cartons, candles and lots of glitter, but I’m not very fond of blinking ligts in neon colours.
- I love baking spiced cookies and drinking Glögg (mulled wine – click for recipe) with friends and family, but the drinkathons that some christmas parties turn into is not my cup of tea.
To me christmas is about being present with the people I care about, and it all boils down to the Danish concept of hygge.
“In essence, hygge means creating a nice, warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people around you. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that’s hygge too. And let’s not forget the eating and drinking – preferably sitting around the table for hours on end discussing the big and small things in life.” (source: visitdenmark.com)
So in the spirit of hygge and all the things I do love about christmas, I wanted to make something new for this Christmas – even though I’m quite late for Christmas in the retail world.
In honour of my re-launch, instead of the Christmas Tree decorations I normally make, I decided to make something that celebrates the light in the darkest time of the year: a Mini Candle Holder – May it bring you a cosy, warm hygge atmosphere.
They are hand-pierced in oxidised copper, flat-packs and ‘cross-slides’ together (hope you know what I mean by that).
Size: 5 x 4,5 cm, fitting a 12mm mini candle.
They come wrapped in a origami folded packaging, from recycled book page paper, and will be yours for $90 (Copper) or $340 (Silver) each. Pre-order them here.
OMG, these are WONDERFUL!!!! I love them so much!
Will share about them and hope you get many orders!
And am totally with you on what you wrote about. I usually say that I love Christmas – and especially Advent – but not what most people (and shops etc.) make of Christmas. And I am also super-late with my Christmassy stuff … but, to be really honest, I think I would feel really really bad putting Christmas products out in September.
xox,
Ursula
Thanks Ursula!
Well, maybe we just need to start setting a different standard then the ‘highstreet shops’!?! x
You know what – I TOTALLY love that idea! I always thought that I am the only one feeling that way … but then, I suppose there are quite a few artists that think similarly!!!
This is a wonderful – empowering!!! – thought.
